'An Adult Daughter To Her Parents.'

Growing from babies dependant on our parents to teenagers that torture them, and entering the final stage that is adulthood, is a transition that most likely gives our caregivers whiplash. They provide for us, care for us, love us... and one day we leave them to enter the big bad world of reality. The physical distance between children and parents is an inevitable fact of life; one day we will have to be apart and face life on our own. It is daunting, until you realise that the closeness of the bond you share eclipses any space that could ever be between you and your parents. These are the thoughts and feelings that are the foundations of this little poem. It does not matter where life takes me, where I am in the world, what I am doing or who I am with... my parent's love will always fill in the gaps.

Like a ball of string unravelling,

The distance between us,

Lengthens and lengthens and lengthens.

But in times of need,

You are an elastic band,

You snap back,

To me

and although the space is great,

Your love,

Fills it with haste.

AA.
